When the Falcons gave Denver all they could handle in a one point loss, everyone said the Pioneers were just a little rusty. A week later, no one seemed to notice when Air Force won a thriller over Marist in the fourth overtime. At the Faceoff Classic, Air Force gained some attention by beating an Ivy League power and a North East Conference bottom feeder, yet they were still left off of every national poll. Then came High Point.

High Point started the year off with three straight losses before they became one of this season’s success stories. In week four, the Panthers traveled to Charlottesville to take on the #10 ranked Virginia Cavaliers. Long story short, the Panthers came out on top and gave the lacrosse world one of the first major upsets of the 2016 season. Three commanding wins later, High Point started SoCon play as a conference favorite. That’s where the Falcons come into play.

In the SoCon opener for both teams, Air Force took down High Point in an impressive nine goal victory. With the win the Falcons not only proved they belong in the SoCon, but they also secured themselves a #20 national ranking. The win gave Air Force hope, momentum, and confidence. And the Falcons decided to embrace it.

On Tuesday, the Falcons got the victory of a lifetime over the storied Duke Blue Devils. Sure it took them an overtime period to do it. Sure the Falcons aren’t the first or second or third team to upset Duke in recent seasons, let alone this year, but the point here is that Air Force did it. The Falcons did it. Who are we to minimize their accomplishments?

Until Tuesday, those who had noticed the Falcons prior to the upset were left asking themselves one question: Are these guys for real? This question was answered on a Tuesday afternoon in Durham that left the Blue Devils shaking their heads in shock.

As for those who hadn’t noticed the Falcons, after Tuesday, they were forced to give Air Force a second look.

Air Force has been begging for attention all season. Now, we have no choice but to give it to them.
